Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer are on the quest for answers of what Alison knew before she died and they might have just gotten a big lead when someone from Alison’s past appears. And just when they feel like Duncan may be the only lead, Jason drops off a bag of Alison’s personal items that could be more than just a bag of junk.

2×24: If These Dolls Could Talk

Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer search for the meaning of new clues leads them to a doll hospital that holds some very familiar looking dolls and a little boy that knows more than he leads onto. But what would bring Ali to such a creepy and weird location on her hunt for “A?” And what can the four girls learn about the secrets that are stashed away on the shelves between forgotten playmates?

Meanwhile, Jenna’s surgery brings about more than just the possibility of regaining her sight.

2×25: unmAsked

Rosewood’s Junior League Masquerade Gala is the perfect setting for “A’s” next game of cat and mouse with his/her favorite targets. But with Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer fast on his/her heels, will this game be “A’s” last?

Style Story: Hanna

When we think of Hanna, we instantly think of her fashion expertise. She mixes colors and prints with classic staples and modern additions with ease! Her accessories are always the perfect compliment to her outfit and she is never overdone or too trend-heavy. One of the tricks to replicating Hanna’s style at home is to make sure you are selective with your trends. Trying new colors and styles is what Hanna does best, but she also steers clear from trends and fits that would be unflattering on her. Knowing what to avoid in fashion is just as important as what you walk out of the stores with. Not every look is made for every body type, so be selective!

Style Story: Aria

Chambray isn’t exactly the first fabric we think of when it comes to Aria… but chambray with metal spikes?? Now you’re talking! Classic fabrics with an edge are a great way to incorporate something old with something new. Aria is a master at this art. If you can’t find these kinds of clothes where you live, learn how to make it yourself! Knowing the basics of sewing (or even how to handle a glue gun) will help you add your own special touch to otherwise ordinary pieces.

Dress: Genetic Denim
Jacket: Rachel Roy
Boots: Vince Camuto

Style Story: Emily

Knit hats aren’t just for keeping warm anymore. Obviously they still serve a purpose in the cold winter months, but they also serve another purpose… cuteness!! We love Emily in all of her hats this season. They are such a great compliment to her casual look. They add a little jolt of fashion without being fussy or complicated. If you admire Emily’s laidback style, knit hats are a great way to copy her look at home.

Tank Top: Forever 21
Jeans: Wallflower
Jacket: Obey

The fit of Spencer’s clothes always make her really stand out. Her look is perfectly tailored no matter what the actual pieces look like, and this week is no different. The skirt fits to perfection and the shirt is a great feminine compliment with just the right amount volume on top. No matter what your style is, choosing pieces that fit properly is the key to looking put together and polished.

A Recap of Monday’s Episode “Breaking The Code”

admin » February 22, 2012 » Filed under: General News » 0 comments

Spencer tells her friends that she has the $2,000 to give to the man who has the information on ‘A,’ but the only ones that are going to meet with this man are Spencer and Aria. Emily and Hanna are peeved that their friends will be the first to find out who ‘A’ is, but Spencer is the bank and Aria is the face the man would only recognize.

Mona interrupts the girls to remind Hanna about picking out a dress for a party, but Hanna naturally forgets. During her conversation with Hanna, Mona is interrupted herself with a text from ‘A.’

At the Marin household, Officer Wilden pays a visit to ask Hanna a few follow-up questions about the day Hanna and her friends were at the morgue in their candy stripe outfits.

Meanwhile, Spencer reveals to her pregnant sister, Melissa, about Jason’s biological father and how their mother knew all along. She also tells Melissa that Ali knew about Jason.

At Rosewood High, Emily is with Paige finishing up a project, all the while still trying to make contact with Maya.

When Hanna is watching Mona try on her outfits for the party, she sees that Mona receives a text. Mona tells Hanna the threats that have been going on, like how ‘A’ knows that Mona stole the necklace she was wearing. Despite it being stolen, Mona refuses to return it, but Hanna knows the extent in which ‘A’ will go to destroy someone’s life.

Mona even shows Hanna a photo of Officer Wilden and Hanna’s mom, but Hanna tells Mona it’s PhotoShopped.

When Aria and Spencer meet the man who’s supposed to give them the identity of ‘A,’ all they get in return is an address. No name. No number. Just an address. What’s even creepier is that Officer Garrett has been lurking in the background this whole time!

As Aria’s finishing up a call from Ezra, Aria’s mother walks in to her room to confront her about the note that was left on Aria’s father’s windshield from ‘A.’ Aria’s mother said that she would look into who ‘A’ is.

At school, Paige tells Emily that she came out to her parents. “I have you to thank for it,” Paige says to Emily. Paige also hints that she’s still into Emily.

Hanna sends a S.O.S. to her friends to tell her friends about Mona. And since the Liars are on a roll with dropping bombshells, Aria shares that ‘A’ has been sending notes to her parents. This bugs Spencer because Spencer had to break up with Toby for his protection, while Aria had been carrying on her relationship with Ezra.

When Hanna receives decrypted footage from Caleb of the time when Ian, Jenna, and Garrett were in Ali’s room, Melissa shows up on that video, surprising the Liars big time.

Spencer wants to talk to her sister first, but the other girls want to turn the video in.

Back at Hanna’s house, Mona confronts her friend about her shoplifting record, courtesy of ‘A.’ Hanna reluctantly reveals to Mona that Hanna and her friends have been tormented by ‘A,’ too. Will Mona have to throw Hanna under the bus or sacrifice herself?

Spencer plans on meeting with Melissa at a bar, but she bumps into Wren. Just when Melissa’s about to enter the place, Garrett drives up and Melissa gets into his car as Spencer and Wren watch. Moments later, Spencer receives a text from Melissa stating that class was running late.

Spencer thinks that Melissa doesn’t know Garrett that well, but Wren tells Spencer that he saw Garrett with Melissa at a doctor’s appointment.

Aria, Emily, and Hanna head to the address that the man gave them earlier. The girls poke around the house, but when Aria goes to pull the mail out of the mail slot, an elderly pops out with the sound of alarms.

A drunk Spencer goes home with Wren, and let me tell you tipsy Spencer is so much more fun than in-control Spencer.

Near the end, Aria and Ezra first have a heart-breaking moment filled with ironic, cheesy song, then a hopeful moment when Aria’s mom comes around in somewhat supporting Aria and Ezra’s relationship.

Thoughts to ponder until the next episode:
- Is this the light at the end of the tunnel for Ezra and Aria or are they on a tough road ahead?
- What role do you think Melissa plays in Ali’s murder?
- Do you think Spencer is better with Toby or Wren?
- If you know Mona’s role in the books, do you think it’s still going down that path? Is Mona a new ally for the Liars or a closer enemy?

New Blog Post From Shay- Oscar Party

admin » February 22, 2012 » Filed under: General News » 0 comments

Once a year, there is one event that changes most people’s lives…THE OSCARS…well not just anyone’s life, but some!  Anyone who likes movies, celebs, fashion, celebration and talent recognition tunes into this pivotal moment in entertainment history every year.  I know I have, for as long as I can remember.  My mother has always liked to do something cute and fun for this special evening so she inspired this idea.

I love a reason to throw a little soiree and have the girls over for some drinks, bites and fun.  With everyone’s hectic schedules it also isn’t easy to get everyone in the same place at the same time…but trust me when I say, as long as you provide the honey, the bees will come!

I have a few tools and some great tips to help you throw the best Oscar Party your friends ever did see!   Below I have attached some printouts and instructions to add that special touch to this special night!

Drink Tags:

This is perfect to remember which drink is yours; are you “Best Actress” or “Best Picture”

  • Print the “Drink Tag” document onto card stock
  • Cut around each perimeter
  • Hole punch the top
  • Tie onto the glass with your ribbon of choice

Treat Bag Tags:

These can be presented on your table for guests to have.  The idea is for them to take the same corresponding “Title” as their drink…keeps things fun and less confusing

  • Print the “Treat Bags” document onto adhesive paper (this can generally be purchased at any office supplies store)
  • Cut them out along the perimeter
  • Fill bags of your choice with the treat of your choice and seal with the sticker

Ballot Sheets

I pulled the nominees off the official Oscar website and put them in a “theme” consistent document for a fun game!

  • Put them into an envelope of your choice
  • When the guests have arrived, hand them out and have everyone select who they think will win
  • Throughout the awards, make sure everyone is keeping track of how many they guessed correctly
  • At the end determine the winner! (As the host, make sure you have a small joke gift or something nice…a homemade Oscar award, bottle of wine, etc)

Swag Bags:

Because we all know these award shows have the “Swag Suites”  (I’ve personally always wanted to receive this so called “Swag”)!

  • Print the “Swag Bag” tags onto the same adhesive paper used for the “Treat Bags” and cut around the perimeter
  • I took regular gift bags and cut the knot off one end and pulled the handle out leaving just the holes
  • Fill the bag with “swag” of your choice
  • Thread ribbon through the holes where the handles used to be and tie it into a bow
  • Fold down the top and seal with the “Swag Bag” sticker
  • Use your imagination for the contents of your bags.  They don’t need to cost a lot; be creative.  I went to a local movie store and bought previously viewed Oscar Nominated DVD’s for $3.99, chocolates dusted with gold, homemade cookies in the shape of stars and a mini bottle of champagne.  Also, a thank you card (as previously posted,  http://www.shaymitchell.com/2012/02/19/thank-you/   …Thanks Jody)!

THE TABLE

I bought a red table cloth (from the dollar store) and placed it down the center of the table…replicating a “red carpet” and scattered gold star confetti. EASY!  For the centerpiece I suggest using a short vase and filling it with a selection of yellow flowers.  Trust me when I say, fresh flowers make ANY table look fresh and glam.

THE FOOD

Cocktail parties generally don’t leave guests feeling full, but essentially provide them with something to snack on throughout the night.  Some of my suggestions would be things that don’t need much preparation: a cheese plate, veggies, fruits and dips.  Google some appetizer ideas and again, have fun with it.  Tip: To bring down costs, throw a potluck! Everyone brings their favorite share plate and not only does each person make a contribution, it is a great way to share ideas and recipes (during commercials only).

THE DRINKS

To keep those palates moist I recommend anything yellow (as close to gold as possible): Lemon water, sparkling apple juice, lemonade, champagne, white wine…you get the picture!

These are all just ideas and helpful guidelines for your party.  Use your imagination and have fun with it.  You don’t need to spend a ton of money to make it a good night…dollar stores are my place of worship when throwing a party!

Style Story: Aria

Every week, we find major jewelry inspiration from Aria. She seems to always be one step ahead of trends. Her ability to accessorize is so inspiring, and that we try to apply her finesse to our own choices. She doesn’t rely on expensive pieces, just her creativity! This week we are obsessed with her loads of gold jewelry that she paired with her red blouse and jeans. The actual clothing was simple and classic, but the way she mixed all of the jewelry together really made the outfit. It wasn’t a set and it didn’t match. It just looked so cool! Do you have a jewelry box full of random pieces you have collected over the years? Put it on and see what great combinations you can come up with!

Style Story: Hanna

Jackets have always been a PLL staple. We don’t think there has been an episode yet that didn’t feature a coat that we wanted to steal! This week Hanna sports our favorite jacket of the week. We love the color, the shape, and how she styled it. It is a great complement to her jeans and tee shirt look. Jackets are the key to a versatile wardrobe so stock up on great options!

Jacket: Tory Burch
Boots: Joe’s

Now that Emily is back on the swim team she is diving into school spirit headfirst. Not only does she host a party for the team, she chooses to wear a super cute blue T-shirt in honor of the occasion. Showing school spirit with your wardrobe doesn’t have to be just with a uniform or a T-shirt with your mascot’s face. You can find subtle, fashionable ways to show your support. It can be as simple as wearing your school colors or as elaborate as making your own outfit to express your support. Either way, showing off your sense of style is always a fashion “do”!

When leggings came back in a few years ago, we became obsessed with how simple it is to create outfits with a pair of black leggings, a great tunic, and boots. So easy!! But this season was definitely a move away from leggings and towards skinny denim. Spencer shows us a perfect updated version of this look. We love her skinny, ankle-length jeans, sheer cutout top, and loafers. Dare we say THIS is our new go-to look for the season? With this outfit, you still get the ease of the leggings/tunic/boots combo but it is a little more polished. Switching out the boots for loafers really completes this updated style!
